The Elemental Lord of Fire is considered the most destructive of the elemental powers but also the most revered. Many cultures have some kind of fire cult. And although most pantheons have a deity for the fire, in many cases it is just a personification of the Elemental Lord. Fire is almost universally seen as male and the Elemental Lord is normally represented as a giant column of fire without visible factions. Sometimes he takes the form of a colossal fire giant or any other creature related to fire.

Fire is the begin and the end. It cures, it cleanses, it purifies, and it destroys your enemies. Fire must be handled with care and respect or it will turn against you. Fire is a gift and a responsibility, and it must be feeded to burn eternally. Fire is also within; passion and devotion are the flames of the spiritual fire in our hearts that we must tend.

Clergy and Temples

Most cults of fire are based on wealth and power. The destructive nature of fire is often taken as a symbol for evil, as it can consume all life. Thus many cults are evil and feared. However, among nature-near cultures the cults tend to be neutral. Some cults are good, dedicated to the curative forces of renewal of the fire. Most cults of fire are also wealthy as gold and gems are normal sacrifices dedicated to the Lord of Fire. Temples tend to be large and luxurious, with motives in bronze and gold representing the aspects of the local view of the Elemental Lord.

Most cults dedicated to the Lord of Fire have a very tight hierarchy. The strongest and largest cult dedicated to the fire is the Church of Nusku in Muhlram. Other than other cults, the Nuskafi (followers of Nusku) work together with the followers of other elemental cults, including water. Other cults see the followers of either air or water, and eventually both, as enemies.

The largest temple of Nusku is the Obsidian Brazier Ziggurat, deep in the heart of the Black Empire. Not a single building but a whole holy city, accessible only by the Shiibati and faithful Nuskafi. The Nuskafi are often LE, although most of their doctrines are absolute neutral. Some Nuskafi clerics enter the Order of Purity and are called Purifiers, the most devoted and dangerous of the Nuskafi. Those that cannot enter this Order often multiclass as wizards or fighters.

Purifier of Nusku

Ukyaagadh, the Holy City of the Black Emperor. High walls, obsidian golems and the Purifiers are the best defence. The tall and strong Shiibati, clad in black mail and red robes watch over the gates of the Holy City. Sometimes the Purifiers will leave the city to seek treasures for the church, spread the Holy Word or follow the orders of Lord and Sire.

Purifiers are the most dangerous of the mortal followers of Nusku. Trained as clerics, they are proficient with a large array of weapons and even with arcane magic, making them Beacons of Faith and Might on any battlefield.

In order to become a Purifier of Nusku, a character must fulfil all following criteria:

  Alignment: LE
  Race: Shiibati, Razghati, Maghati, Human
  Base Attack Bonus: +7
  Abilities: Str 15+, Wis 15+, Int 15+
Spells: Able to cast 5rd level divine spells and have access to the Fire domain.
Feats: Must be proficient with all martial weapons and with heavy armour
Special: Must fulfil a holy quest given by the Black Emperor.

Class skills

A Purifier has following class skills (and the key ability for each skill) Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Heal (Wis), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Knowledge (religion) (Int), Spellcraft (Int).

Class Features

Fire Immunity: At first level, a Purifier gets Fire Immunity 10 against any kind of fire, even magical. At 5th level he gainst Fire Immunity 15 and at 9th level Fire Immunity 20.

Pyromancer Spells: A Purifier has access to any fire related arcane spells. He can cast them as if they were divine spells of the same level. He can use any metamagic and item creation feats he has with these spells.

Spell progression: With each new level as Purifier, a character advances a level as cleric of Nusku, gaining access to new spells.

Summon fire elemental: Purifiers gain the ability to summon fire elementals. The size of the elemental depends on the level of the Purifier as in the table below. The summoned element is automatically controlled by the Purifier. The different levels of summoning are cumulative, so that a 4th level purifier can summon a small fire elemental and a large fire elemental the same day. The next day he can summon only a small elemental, and after one week he can summon again a large elemental. Summoning an elemental in this way is a full round action that provokes an attack of opportunity.

Hit points: Purifiers of Nusku gain 1d10 hp per level.

Skill points per level: 2 + Int modifier
